some learnings from high school
- •be delusional. ambitious goals act as a north star and with enough effort, persistence, and some luck, reality has a way of catching up.
- •serendipitymaxx. be as outgoing as possible. meet people, go to events, say yes to things, send that dm, and give luck more chances to find you. even if it means being uncomfortable.
- •seek opportunities outside of school. meet the most ambitious and cracked students from across the city, province, country, and beyond.
- •your grade 10 english mark doesn't matter. nor do any of your french marks across all four years :)
- •focus on building relationships. you'll remember the people and moments more than anything.
- •work hard, play hard. go to that post-exam brunch or mid-lunch costco run with your friends.
- •make yourself known by others.
- •never stop being high agency. don't let opportunities slip away — or better yet, create your own.
- •take more photos. be in more photos. document every memory.
- •do dumb things and experience the world. just not illegally dumb.
- •find what excites you and chase it. don't waste time and energy on ten different school clubs and non-profits that you don't resonate with. focus on building, researching, and competing. whatever excites you. remember, quality > quanitity.
- •being humble is one of the most respectable traits. be open-minded and willing to learn from others.
- •get your driver's license as early as possible.
- •emails are powerful. send those cold emails early. people are more willing to help ambitious young people than you think.
- •don't gatekeep. ngmi behaviour.
- •be kind to people. your reputation tends to stick. (even teachers gossip about you).
- •if your work or social circle drains you, leave.
